Today's Action: Day 5 Results!

One word: SICK!

Game 1:

The Sody-Pop Gang (SG/JBrown) vs. Super-Happy Fun-Time Krew (DanC/Kirk)

Holy Mother of Pearl! This is what we paid to see! With both teams facing elimination, the combatants played with a very appropriate level of desperation. Holy *censored*!

If I told you that the biggest lead of the game was a tiny three points and that most of the game was played with only a single point separating the teams, you'd have to believe me, because I've just ordered a stack of bibles so I can swear on it. 2-3. 5-5. 6-7. 9-9. 11-10. 13-14. 19-20!! Could the tension get any thicker? No!! Dovi was apoplectic, screaming for deuce and jibbering like a dope fiend. Tim D, who had money on the line, was gnawing his empty water bottle like a rabid mongoose eating an ear of corn. Kane started twitching nervously and speaking as if he was sitting at the foot of the Tower of Babel. Guido was standing in a puddle that may have been self-generated. Even I got so caught up in the frenzy that I almost swallowed my tongue. Unreal.

Every shot was amazing. Every rally belonged on the highlight reel. Every point was critical. Every missed smash, dink off and over the net, every shot in the pills (none for Kirk, sadly - Dan C took it for the team) was cause for an eruption from the crowd.

I cannot stress strongly enough that this may be the best pong you'll ever see in your life. In the end, it didn't matter who won, because we all knew that we'd seen a classic. Three cheers for all the players.

Game 2:

Hoof In Mouth Disease (Gibby/Ralves) vs. No Time Toulouse (JParm/Jance)

Like this game was ever going to match up with the first? Not likely.

But wait! Not so fast. If it wasn't for the otherworldly action from Game 1, this surely would have been the match of the tournament. The game may have lacked the tension of the previous one, but this was an exhibition of some high-end pong expertise.

Before the tournament, as bets were being negotiated, someone said, "It basically comes down to Ralves vs. Jance, since Gibby and JParm are pretty much equal..." Oh, really? Well, if you didn't know before, you know now: Jason P. Armstrong is a robot! Nobody could unleash a shot that hard, that quickly, and that accurately. No human, anyway. Forehand, backhand, off the serve, anywhere. The guy was unreasonably good. Shot after shot left a pockmark in the wall behind Ralves and Gibby. I think Ralves may have even lost a pinky finger from one of the surgically accurate slams. Hoof In Mouth did their best to contain the JParm 5000, and even kept the game pretty close, but in the end, it was too much. Steve G's empty shout of, "Comeback!" at 16-20 was pie in the sky. This one was over.

definately legendary.

but few remember the championship match that brought us our original champions, Scheles and Joel. that game was so intense! the cops came because someone complained about the noise. the courtyard was PACKED. in fact, if you ask Scheles he'll tell you he still hasn't recovered from this game.
